Being Short
To be considered short an operatives had less than 99 days left of his Vietnam Tour.
"Being short" referred to the time remaining on a soldier's tour of duty in Vietnam. U.S. soldiers were typically deployed for a 12-month tour, and as their tour neared its end, they were said to be "short." Being short was often a source of both anticipation and anxiety for soldiers, as they looked forward to returning home but also faced increased dangers as they completed their remaining time in a combat zone.
